Tough First Leg of the Uni Cup for the Cynics

It was a frustrating start to the Uni Cup for the Cynics, only managing to pick up one win from three in the weekend series against UNSW.

1st Grade were 2-hit and shutout in a 1-0 game that was always in striking distance. Alex Cobb was excellent over eight innings, conceding just a single run and was harshly awarded with the loss. Sam Jackson also made his 1st Grade debut for the club, striking out two in one inning of relief.

2nd Grade lost 2-1 and struggled offensively with 13 strikeouts, lacking production from the heart of their lineup. Jarryd ‘Sugar’ Stanley started on the mound and spun a six inning gem, allowing only one earned run. Zak Horton was also effective, pitching three innings of shut-out relief.

3rd Grade remain top of the table after a 7-2 win. Caleb Garven struck out five over four innings, while Ben Cobb and David Huang combined for two innings of shut out relief. Calvin Wagner led the way offensively for the Cynics, picking up two hits including a triple, while Tiger Ma drove in two runs.

4th Grade stayed unbeaten with a high-scoring 11-9 win over Kissing Point. Trent Smyers hit a two run opposite field home run.
