Cynics Win 2024 Championships

Sydney University Baseball Club have taken out two championships over the weekend in the grand finals of the Sydney Winter Baseball League 3rd and 2nd grade competitions.

The 3rd grade team triumphed 4-1 over Quakers Hill Pirates on Saturday 24th of August in sweltering conditions, led by 6 innings on the hill by Gabe ‘Big Dog’ Quoyle, giving up only 1 earned run. Mitch Liddle shut the door, closing out the game in the relief, with key offensive performances by Patterson Trudgett and Ben Warnock.

Gabe Quoyle was rightly awarded the Grand Final MVP for his performance. Mitch Liddle took out the league’s season hitting award and MVP award.

Celebrations after the win were stifled, as the club needed to back up early on Sunday 25th of August with 2nd grade taking on Castle Hill Knights for the title. The Cynics proved too strong for the Knights, winning 8-2. Riley Puckett got the nod for the Grand Final MVP, with 6 innings of dominant pitching.

Gustavo Landin won the SWBL 2nd grade MVP for the season.

The club celebrated with hearty renditions of the club song in the sheds, then players, friends and family congrugated at the sponsor, The Annandale Hotel.
