3 Championships for the Gold and Blue!

The Club song was sung loud and oft as the 2018 season concluded in emphatic fashion for the Cynics, claiming two SWBL premierships and gold at the UniSport Nationals!

Third grade fought out a tight 2-1 tussle vs Hawkesbury to win their third premiership in a row, and 5th in the last 7 years. Jon Nicoll was stellar, throwing a complete game for the win, while veteran Scott Moran drove in the only runs with a 2 run triple. Nicoll deservedly earned Grand Final MVP honours while Gavin Morgan was named 3rd grade league season MVP.

Second grade followed with a 4-2 victory also vs Hawkesbury. Jarryd Stanley kept up his fine form with a dominant 8 inning outing before Club President Wade Shipard closed the door in the 9th.  Zac Horton lead the offense with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Stanley was justly named Grand Final MVP as well as League Pitching Champion, while Sonny Butterworth was crowned 2nd grade league season MVP.

The students travelled to the Gold Coast for the inaugural Unisport Nationals (previously known as Uni Games or InterVarsity) as short-odd favourites and did not disappoint. They cruised through the week undefeated, before stamping their dominance with a mercy rule 11-1 victory over locals Griffith University. Ron Rushbrooke Scholarship Holder Alex Cobb dominated on the mound while 32 year old rookie Sonny Butterworth lead the offense hitting two homeruns during the week.

Next stop for the Cynics is in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong International Baseball Open (HKIBO) in December.
