2018 Scholarships & Campaign

Sydney University Baseball Club offers unique opportunities that are unavailable at the majority of other clubs. We are happy to counsel players who are interested in studying at Sydney Uni, and assist them with their applications.

These opportunities are available thanks to the generosity of our Alumni and Members. Recently and notably, David Hynes and Ron & Jennie Finlay have made considerable contributions to two new scholarships that will be named in their honour.

Elite Athlete Scholarships

Athletes can receive a range of benefits, depending on the scholarship type, including:

  • Financial Assistance ($1,000+ per year)

  • International Travel Grants when representing Australia (up to $1,500 per year)

  • Access to Gym, Pool and Batting Facility

  • Sports Science Services

  • Academic Advice & Advocacy

Undergraduate applicants can apply for admission with an ATAR of up to five points below the regular cut-off; if an elite athlete whilst completing their HSC.

Check out the 2018 Elite Athlete Information Booklet for all the details. Applications close on the third Sunday in January 2018.

Baseball Scholarship Campaign

The campaign aims to guarantee funding for Sydney University Baseball Club into the future, through two new named scholarships.

Alumni and Members are strongly urged to donate. The most satisfying part is that your donation is held in trust for perpetuity; with the interest funding the annual scholarships for future generations.

All contributions to sporting scholarships are fully tax deductible and can be made in annual instalments over two, three or even five years.

The David Hynes Scholarship
David was an explosive power hitter and the recipient of the first ever sports scholarship awarded by Sydney University. He represented Australia at the 1996 Olympics and currently serves as Chairman of Baseball Australia.

The Ron & Jennie Finlay Scholarship
Ron was a 1st Grade Premiership, Inter-varsity and NSW catcher in the 1970/80's, long-serving SUBC President, and ABF Chairman. Ron currently serves on the Board of the WBSC.
Jennie was a tireless contributor,  scorer and organiser of everything on and off the field. The Jennie Finlay Award is named in her honour,  annually given to the best young student baseballer.
